Some of you are overweight and you feel hopeless. I’ve been there.
You look at yourself in the mirror every day, and you don’t like what you see. You hate the fact that you can’t do things that you see other fit people doing. You can’t wear the clothes you wish you could wear. You wonder if people judge you. You know some do. You want to change, but the idea of trying is overwhelming, you don’t know where to start, or you’ve tried before and have failed, and you don’t want to deal with another failure.
I’ve been there.
But… I’m not there anymore, and you don’t have to be either.
I’m not selling a product, I telling you the truth. The truth is, YOU CAN MAKE A CHANGE IN YOUR LIFE!
At my heaviest, I was 290 lbs. I couldn’t believe that I had gotten to that point. I had become a food addict and a stress eater. I decided I wanted to change, and in a year, I lost about a 100 lbs from exercise and eating right. I then put about 60 or so lbs back on because I had no long term sustainable plan. I was bummed that all my hard work had been wasted, and that I let myself gain weight again. I made another decision a couple years later to try again to lose it. That brings us to now. This time I’m down 54 lbs in a matter of months, and I’m still going, only now, I have a long term plan. I’m making lifestyle changes, and I’m learning to love things I don’t really like (eating healthy, exercise).
The truth is, I gave up on making excuses – my metabolism just isn’t as good as other people’s, I’m just not an athletic person, I have health problems, etc.
What I want you to hear today is that you can start RIGHT NOW and you can stop making excuses for yourself. Don’t start tomorrow. Don’t start next week. Don’t wait for the new year. Your health and happiness is in your own hands. Take the first step, because only you can. Don’t compare your progress to other people’s progress. Claim every victory small or large. Take the first step. Find a reason. If it’s not for yourself, do it for your family and friends. Every day you wait is a day wasted. Don’t waste anymore!
Today, the unlete will hit the road for a three mile run. Today, that run is for all of you that desire a change. That run is going to scream “I CAN, AND I WILL!” I would love for you to join me in that resolve.
As this blog progresses, I hope to share a few success stories with you from friends of mine. They are proof that taking that first step can lead to change. For now, I will leave you with this quote that I think sums it all up:
